NBA 2K25 launches Season 5. What to expect for MyTeam
What do you need to know about Season 5 for NBA 2K? We did a quick scan of what's coming.
NBA 2K25 launched its fifth season on Friday, bringing a slew of new rewards and dynamics to the different game modes as the NBA heads into its second season.
For the MyCareer mode, things seem to be status quo. New rewards, a few events, and the same grind you’d expect from the Park side of things. Rewards include a superhero outfit (definitely Iron Man-coded) and a Quadcopter. Fun!
In MyTeam, NBA 2K is kicking things off with free digital cards of Victor Wembanyama and Zion Williamson — two of the most praised young players in recent memory. The game has also released a new 100 overall card of Kristaps Porziņģis and a bunch of budget options. Oh, and they seem to have added a new “Gems of the Game II” collection — a callback to the first batch of cards that were rare cards with extra moves, animations, and skills.
Bigger context: This is a big time for NBA 2K. The game often seems to have a massive audience flood around the NBA All-Star Game, and 2K usually offers 99 overall cards to help meet the demand. For longtime gamers, this is a time when spending very few coins can use some of the best NBA legends and stars. NBA 2K25 wasn’t the most highly praised game in the world, so anything they’re doing to hook more gamers will likely up the view of this game in the future.
ScribNERD take: I haven’t been playing much MyTeam since Christmas. I started the year playing the game but realized the lack of free rewards and focus microtransactions left a lot to be desired. Now, I find myself interested in the mode again. Mostly because I have a bunch of coins after the All-Star Game event and can play casually with my favorite hoopers offline. We’ll see how Season 5 turns out, but so far, things are looking at least a little positive.
